South India - ~4600KM Solo Ride

It had been quite some time I went on a ride. I wanted to ride to/in some to some unique/different location. I was looking around the map a large one which I had stuck to door, and thinking where to..where to...I suddenly stopped as my eye sight fell on Bhutan and I thought I'll ride in the land of thunder dragon. I did some googling, noted down some details.

A few weeks later, I was at a friends place and I told him I am planning to ride to Bhutan and casually asked joining? I informed him of the details I had gathered. He seemed interested. I then asked him if how about we ask the others? I called our close friends and they all interested.
The pack was formed - 10 of us, including a couple. i.e., nine bullets. All us applied for leaves, and they were approved. It was two week ride. We got our bikes serviced. We were shipping our bike to Kolkata, and we were riding from there.
The day before we were to go to the railway station to parcel our bikes, I receive a call from a relative from my home town. I had to drop my ride plan to Bhutan and go to my hometown, Palakkad as I had to attend to something urgently. I however go to the railway station, along with the others. I was feeling bad and dejected that I was not able to join the ride, but was happy that atleast my friends are going to ride.

My friends left for Kolkatta, and I decided that I will ride to my hometown, as I had already packed clothes, spares, tools for the ride.

What started off as a hometown ride ended up being about 4600 Km ride. A pictorial representation of the 4600+ Km Ride. Please note legends that mark the weather type through the places I was riding through.

I started from Hyderabad in the evening at about 5:00 pm. The plan was to halt at kurnool that night. I reached Kurnool at about 9:00pm, and checked into some lodge near the highway. When I put my phone on charge, it was not getting charged. I think there was a problem with the charging socket as it was getting charged when i was trying to adjust the charge. It was raining as I came out of the lodge. Quickly saddled up and rode out. It was was about 4:30 am. It was raining until around 6:00 am. The NH-7 was being 4-laned, so there were lots of diversions, in some places it was also slushy as it was raining.
I crossed Bangalore by afternoon. I decided to go into Hosur town, and look for Nokia service center, to get the phone serviced. When I reached Hosur, I enquired about the Nokia Service center, and I was told that there was one in 'Taluk Office road'. At the service center, they checked the phone and said, it would cost about 1000 - 2000 (can't remember the figure now) and said the will deliver it the next day. I told them that I was riding and there was no way anyone can contact me. If I was not reachable, they would be worried about my safety, then they agreed to deliver it one hour. I put it on charge for about half an hour.

It was around 2:30 pm, when I rode out of the town, I stopped at some highway hotel on the outskirts of the town for lunch. In about fifteen minutes I was back on the road and it started raining heavily. I was raining until I reached Krishnagiri. Just as I was reaching the Erode bye-pass it started raining heavily again as I was approaching the turn towards Tiruppur, I decided that I would visit my Aunt and stay at he place that night. It was still raining, I reached my aunts house at about 8:30.

Punnathur Kota (Anakotta)

Punnathur Kotta AKA Anakotta It is a fantastic place of visit. Every visitor especially the children would be thrilled to see so many elephants in one place. Well, this is not a zoo. Unlike the zoo, where a variety of wild animals are housed, here the only animal we get to see are the majestic elephants. Most of these elephants are trained or being trained. These elephants are all of the elephant are shackled, however they are not in separate enclosures. Yes, it’s a heart-rending scene for any animal lover who would love to see them roam around freely.  You will get to see the caretaker/mahout feeding the elephants, giving them bath, elephants playing in water, mud. When moving around take care not to get too close to the elephants and not be too noisy near them. Elephants in musth are however kept in a separate enclosure.  Entry and still photography charges are nominal. Note, there are separate charges for still photography and videography. The sanct

DARASURAM

DARASURAM is located about 3 - 4 KM from Kumbakonam. The Airavateswara temple was constructed by Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century. His grandsons had a short period of life. Rajaraja II was was his(Raja Raja I), grand-daughters son. Darasuram visit was a part of my Kumbakonam visit. I must have spent about one and half hour at Darasuram. I was not was not able to take more pictures here as someone yelled ‘photo edukadhengo’ (do not take pictures). I am sure I missed taking many more interesting pictures. I was also sweating profusely as it was a humid day and I had to be more cautious with the camera, this was also a reason for fewer pictures and picture clarity.  After the chola period, the islamic invaders(Nizams and Bahmani Sultans), destroyed many statues. In the 15th century the Rulers from Madurai region, The Nayakers did some work like paintings(vegetable paintings), extension on these temples. The vegetable paintings can still be seen on the walls and on the ceiling.
